“Triple Spinning Balance” came to Cynthia Kirkwood in a dream. “The needle spins, as do the two circles on each end. Usually colors and images come in directly.” Since the age of 10 she has been receiving a visual language through automatic drawing, painting in a state of ‘no-mind’, through dreams and also directly from certain plants, trees and flowers. Forms and compositions establish themselves through her and rather than depicting something they are objects in themselves - mysterious seeds, doorways, keys, offerings - channeling beneficial energy.
Cynthia Kirkwood holds a BFA from Middlebury College and studied at the New York Studio School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture and in Umbria, Italy with Nicholas Carone. She was born in Zurich and raised in Bermuda.
